DBCS and Consulus are pleased to announce that Bettr Group is admitted into the Design Power Index (DPI) 2025.

The Design Power Index is an economic premise and framework based on three key questions:
1. Does design generate economic value?
2. If yes, what is the value?
3. Is the nominated organisation great at harnessing the power of design to generate economic value and shape societal impact?

This inaugural index is launched by the Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) in partnership with its global knowledge partner Consulus, a global impact investment and creative change firm, as part of DBCS’s 40th anniversary.

Companies and organisations are first shortlisted from a wide range of industries and then nominated. By accepting the nomination, honorees affirm that design shapes economic value through their business model, products, and services. Acceptance also means they agree to participate in an assessment the following year for the Design Power Index 2026, ensuring a deepening study on the value of design for economic growth. Acceptance of nomination, use of the logo, and participation in next year’s survey are without fee.

As of now, the estimated total market value of the private and listed companies who have accepted the nomination has reached SGD 20 billion. For the non-profit organisations included, their work impacts the lives of Singaporeans.

Bettr Group – Brewing Social Change Through Design

Bettr is Southeast Asia’s first certified B Corp and a pioneering social enterprise, solving social challenges and championing inclusivity since 2011. The training program itself is a form of design, meticulously crafted to build confidence, resilience, and employable skills. By creating a business model where every class, cup and bag of coffee sold directly funds this social mission, Bettr has created a quantifiable positive impact, generating long-term economic value by cultivating a more inclusive and skilled Workforce.

Bettr has proven that a business model focused on social impact is not only viable but also a powerful engine for brand loyalty and commercial success. Its commitment to design-led social change has inspired a new generation of consumers and entrepreneurs to believe that business can be a force for good.

About the Design Power Index (DPI)

The Design Power Index (DPI) is the world’s first longitudinal economics index designed to measure and track the economic value generated by companies through the strategic use of design and the creation of design intellectual property (IP). • Business of Design — Companies who have achieved revenue and growth through creating unique intellectual property by design
  • Market of Design — Companies who have harnessed design to create a new business category
  • Technology of Design — Companies who have used design to innovate and shape use-behaviour
  • Social Impact of Design — Companies/organisations who use design to shape societal change or impact

Bengawan Solo – The Architects of Culinary Nostalgia

Bengawan Solo is more than a confectionery chain; it is a cultural Singaporean institution that has masterfully leveraged design to reimagine a product category and create a unique service ecosystem. In a market where traditional Southeast Asian kueh and cakes could be seen as simple, unbranded goods, Bengawan Solo has elevated them to premium, design-first products and became a Singapore icon.

The company’s success lies in its ability to take beloved, traditional recipes and present them with a highly recognizable brand identity. From the signature batik-inspired packaging that evokes a sense of heritage and luxury, to the meticulous presentation of each product, every element is designed to signal quality, authenticity, and a uniquely Singaporean experience. This design-led approach has not only created a premium segment for local delicacies but has also defined a new consumption pattern, turning Bengawan Solo’s offerings into quintessential souvenirs for tourists and celebratory gifts for locals.

By establishing a robust central kitchen and a network of inviting retail outlets, Bengawan Solo has built a service ecosystem that guarantees consistency and quality, while making its design-centric products accessible. Bengawan Solo is a testament to the power of design to transform a business, proving that even the most traditional of products can achieve regional appeal and economic success through a visionary design strategy.

Birds of Paradise admitted into the 2025 Design Power Index 1080 1350 Design Business Chamber Singapore

DBCS and Consulus are pleased to announce that Birds of Paradise is admitted into the Design Power Index (DPI) 2025.

Birds of Paradise – An Eden of Design

Birds of Paradise is a quintessential example of a company that has used empathy-driven design as a market creation engine. It didn’t just open an ice cream shop; it identified a deep-seated, unmet need for a sophisticated, nature-inspired dessert experience, thereby reimagining the product category of gelato. The economic value it generates is a direct result of this design-led innovation.

The company’s success is rooted in a design philosophy that is both sensory and seamless. From the serene, minimalist aesthetic of its stores and its botanical-inspired flavors to the sleek, biodegradable packaging, every element is meticulously crafted to tell a story. This design has transformed a simple indulgence into a premium, design-first product, defining new consumption patterns where consumers seek out unique and artful experiences. By creating a complete sensory experience that elevates a familiar product, Birds of Paradise has proven that a design-centric business model can not only create a new, high-end market segment but also foster a fiercely loyal community. Its success is a testament to the power of design to turn an everyday treat into a work of art.

About the Design Power Index (DPI)

The Design Power Index (DPI) is the world’s first longitudinal economics index designed to measure and track the economic value generated by companies through the strategic use of design and the creation of design intellectual property (IP). Showcasing 40 companies and 20 organisations recognised for their business growth, market creation, technological innovation, and social impact through design, the inaugural DPI 2025 provides a holistic lens of design’s contribution to the economy.

Developed by the Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) in partnership with Consulus, the DPI analyses design’s impact across four dimensions:

  • Business of Design — Companies who have achieved revenue and growth through creating unique intellectual property by design
  • Market of Design — Companies who have harnessed design to create a new business category
  • Technology of Design — Companies who have used design to innovate and shape use-behaviour
  • Social Impact of Design — Companies/organisations who use design to shape societal change or impact

PRISM+ – Redefining the Digital Home

PRISM+ is a compelling example of a brand that has used empathy-driven design as a market creation engine. From the outset, it didn’t just sell monitors or TVs; it identified a critical unmet need for high-performance, aesthetically pleasing displays that were also accessible in both price and convenience. This approach enabled PRISM+ to challenge established giants and become Singapore’s leading display brand. As it embarks on its next chapter—transforming into Singapore’s leading home appliance brand—PRISM+ has taken its design philosophy to the next level. Expansion into home appliances has redefined what accessibility means, driving the company to invest millions into research and development focused on how users interact with everyday products. By rethinking the very notions of “value” and “convenience,” PRISM+ is reshaping consumer expectations. This commitment has produced an intuitive app that unifies its smart home ecosystem, paired with appliances designed with user experience at the forefront—all while retaining the brand’s signature sleek and futuristic aesthetic. Every product reflects sustained investment and a relentless commitment to refining the customer journey end to end. PRISM+ demonstrates that when design is placed at the core of a business model—and is resourced at scale—it can disrupt established markets and create entirely new ones. Its design-led approach has driven rapid adoption, built a loyal community, and solidified its position as a market leader—a testament to the power of design to create value and change consumer behaviour

Through hands-on, project-based training programmes, CHI equips healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and community organisations with design thinking methodologies and prototyping skills. The accessible CHI Living Lab at the Centre’s ground level serves as a walk-in consultation hub, democratising innovation support for healthcare professionals.

  • Pioneering Patient-Centred Design Leadership

CHI’s leadership extends beyond institutional boundaries through strategic partnerships with Singapore’s national design ecosystem. Their multi-year participation in Singapore Design Week demonstrates commitment to addressing population health challenges through design. Most notably, CHI’s collaboration with Design Council Singapore (DSG) and the Alliance for Patients Organizations Singapore (APOS) culminated in the inaugural Patient-led National Design Challenge 2025, empowering 10 patient-led teams nationwide to tackle complex healthcare problems through design. This groundbreaking initiative positions patients as co-creators of their healthcare experiences, exemplifying CHI’s vision of sustainable innovation that adds years of healthy life to Singapore’s population.

Through this comprehensive approach, CHI has established itself as a transformative force in healthcare design, creating lasting impact through collaborative innovation that bridges clinical excellence with human-centred design.
