I count it a privilege and honour to be re-elected as president of the Design Business Chamber Singapore in May this year. My first term as president was fulfilling and I am thankful to the last Executive Committee (EXCO) that worked alongside me in advocating design and innovation especially in the business arena. Yet there is still ‘unfinished business’ as per what was mapped out in our 3-year Industry Transformation Roadmap in early 2018. The onward task for me & the new EXCO will be to see the plans to fruition.
Much of our focus and efforts in the past two years has been on collaborations with government agencies, design & trade associations (both local & overseas), local enterprises as well as multi-national corporations and our members. We believe that strategic partnerships bring value to our stakeholders as we promote and facilitate cross-sector cooperation. My goal is to continue to build on the momentum we’ve started.
Having built bridges into the business landscape the past 2 years, it is the right time to include more in this ecosystem of Design & Business. In May, we reviewed our Mission Statement of ‘existing to facilitate Business transformation through Design & Innovation’ that led to the refinement to our current: We exist to facilitate Business transformation through Design, Innovation & Technology. In the next two years, we aim to engage the tech & digital community to complete this ecosystem.
I am also pleased to share that we recently appointed the new Presidential Advisory Commission (PAC) chaired by our Patron, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Communications and Information – Ms Sim Ann. The PAC was formed to provide guidance to me and the Executive Committee in strategic direction and policy recommendations.
These are indeed exciting times for the Chamber. I look forward to what the new term has in store for us at DBCS and for the larger design community.
President, Design Business Chamber Singapore
